2002-04-02 Blindfolded

This evening Tommy and I went for coffee at our favorite coffee shop. We were sitting in a couple of lounge chairs facing the front of the establishment. I had a medium mocha with skim milk, Tom had a small vanilla latte for any of you keeping score at home. It was a slow night as Mondays are apt to be. Eight customers or so.

We were chatting and quizzing each other with Trivial Pursuit questions when a van rolled up and squealed to a stop. The side door opened and three mall chicks emerged. The mall chick in the center was wearing an orange blind fold. All three of them were grinning broadly.

The two sighted girls took the blind folded girl by her arms and began leading her to the door of the coffee shop. They forgot to tell the girl in the middle to step up when they got to the curb so she tripped. I think it was at that point that the blind folded girl stopped grinning. The other two never stopped grinning.

They opened the door and led her into the coffee shop. The two sighted girls were so excited they were bouncing a little and laughing in such a way that it caused them to bite their lower lips.

"Can I take this off yet?" the girl with the blind fold asked.

"Take it off! Take it off!" The two sighted girls were very amused. They claped their hands gleefully.

The formerly blind folded girl blinked a bit to get used to the light. When her vision cleared she was greeted with a room full of coffee drinkers looking at her like this:

She frowned a little and took her friends by their wrists as she dragged them to the counter to get coffee. She was appearantly uncomfortable with the extra attention she recieved as a result of the blind fold. She muttered obscenities under her breath as she passed.

Tom leaned over and asked if that had been the diaryland moment of the evening. He knows me so well.
