2002-07-04 The Wizard on Agent X

I have just finished watching The Wizard of Oz on Turner Classic Movies. It was presented commercial free. It was also presented in what they called "the sing-along format." The sing-along format allows the audience to sing along with the film and facilitates this penetration of the fourth wall by putting the lyrics up on the screen as the actors sing. The sylables even change color as they are sung.

Here is an example. I have retained the spelling from official sing-along version of The Wizard of Oz. "Be-coz be-coz be-coz be-coz be-coz! Be-coz of the won-der-ful things he does."

Unfortunately, you have to imagine the sylables changing colors becoz I don't know the html to demonstrate that part. I'm a novice.

Additionally, the presentation of the film was hosted by a stodgy old guy with a beard in an overstuffed chair on a set rich with library paneling. He was assisted by three very special guests, The Power Puff Girls.

The girls floated gamely over a sofa in ruby slippers and complained that they would not be able to sing-along because they cannot read yet. And also there was much discussion of their new film which is "already very successful and it just opened in a theater near you yesterday!"

The stodgy old man in the over stuffed chair was clearly uncomfortable talking to animated toddlers and he shifted frequently as he pushed some corporate ninnie's synergistic vision forward. "And, Bubbles, is it true that in your movie there is an evil flying monkey with a disgusting enormous brain called MoJo JoJo? Isn't it interesting that there are also evil flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz? Isn't that interesting?"

I hate that shit.

"And don't forget," the host chirped gamely. "When you see the words appear on the screen, you and your family should feel free to SING-ALONG! Aha-ha-ha! The Power Puff Girls and I will be back after the movie! Aha-ha-ha!"
